Directorate of Government Examination Simply called as DGE and was established Feb, 1975, It regulates, controls and developers, secondary education and Higher Secondary education in the state. It provides varied courses in orders to equip students for different occupations to prepare them for university education and to equip them for university education and to equip them for various culture purposes. It examines those who have completed a prescribed course, study and awards certificates to the successful candidates. The first Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination in the year 1911.

Every year the student strength increasing tremendously. The board has decided to improve the evaluation system and there results, has set up Regional offices of the board. There are 7-Regional offices in Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli, Tirunelvelli, Chennai, Cuddalore and Vellore.
