The CHSE course is an Intermediate course of two years duration , conducted be state education institutions or boards in India. A person desiring admission to an Indian University must pass this course, which can be considered as a degree bridge course to prepare students for university education, admission to this course is based on marks obtained for the Maric / 10th Class. The Higher Secondary Education Examination conducted by the CHSE Board , State Government of Intermediate / Higher Secondary Education in Odisha, class 12th. The goal of the Academic, Training, Innovation and Research unit of state Education is to achieve academic excellence by conceptualizing policies and their operational planning to ensure balanced academic activities in the schools affiliated to the Board. The Unit strives to provide Scheme of Studies, curriculum, academic guidelines, textual material, support material, enrichment activities and capacity building programmes. 

The Scheme of Examinations and Pass Criteria for All Standard 12th Examination conducted by the Board, shall be as laid down from time to time. The 10th must be obtained at the end of term of study at the secondary school after which a student can study at a higher secondary school, which is sometimes called a Senior Secondary / +2 / Intermediate, for two years. After this Twelve-Year period of study student may enter a university of for Under Graduate Studies.The Examination would be conducted in theory as well as in practicals, depending upon the nature of the subject(s) and the marks/grades allotted shall be as prescribed in the curriculum. Awarding the grades the Board shall put all the passed students in a rank order.

Council of Higher Secondary Secondary Education, Odisha was established in 1982, with accordance of Odisha. The administrative function of the council commenced from 7th September 1982 in a rented building at Budhaswari colony, Bhubaneswar. In course of time the council constructed its own administrative building at samantapur and has been named as Prajnapita.

The main aims of the Board shall be to provide Senior secondary education and, for this purpose grant recognition to the required number of such schools in the territory, to pay special attention to the improvement of the higher secondary education so that it meets the required needs and standards of economic and social development. After X standard every year about  4.5 lakhs students enroll in the 2-Year Higher Secondary courses. The courses offered by the Department are broadly classified under the categories of Arts, Science, Commerce and Vocational Education which includes various subjects . There are 22 subjects and languages in the plus two curriculum. The Board conducts the examination each year and provide the certification to qualified students.

The Board will be released Odisha result along with the total pass percentage of the students, who have written the 12th class exam in 2018 along with pass percentage of the students of Boys and girls separately, district wise merit list, state wise merit list, district wise top-10 number scores and name and state wide top-10 numbers scores and Names. The result contain a name, roll number, father name, total marks, grade...etc. Candidates can check the result SMS or online modes. The original mark sheet and passing certificate would be collected from the respective colleges.

The Board has ventured to conduct the Supplementary examination for the failed candidate of the examination of March in June month of every year itself, this will enable the students who would be successful in the June examination to join higher education courses in the same academic year from July itself. According to official notification , the candidates who have failed to clear the exam can submit their examination form and fee for supplementary examination.
