2 more die after getting trapped in snowfall in J&K’s Anantnag; death toll reaches 5

Two people have been killed, and two others were rescued after the vehicle they were travelling in got trapped in snowfall last night in Jammu and Kashmir’s Simthan pass. The district administration of Anantnag, J&K Police, and the Army was part of the rescue operation.

The rescue team traversed 30 km through snow-covered and foggy terrain, aided by machinery, and walked for 8 km to reach the location, the officials said. “One body was located on the spot, while another person died during the trip back,” the officials added.

Two people have survived and are undergoing treatment.

Parts of the valley, especially the higher reaches in south Kashmir, received moderate to heavy snowfall on Saturday.
