The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur shortly called as BSEM and was established 1972, has been conducting HSLC and other examinations. Besides the academic activities, the prescription of conditions for granting recognition of standard 1 and VIII was also entrusted to the secondary board. The authority conducts public examination at the end of class X for the courses studies in class X only. The board does not conduct any other public examination, however a common question examination at the end of class VIII will be held were the academic session 2010-2011 to maintain uniformity, standard and quality. The schools themselves will conduct examination, check the answer scripts, however the tabulation marks is to be sent up to board and directive of education (schools), government of Manipur. Present 786 High and High Secondary schools, 226 Government schools, 103 Government Aided and 457 Private schools.
