National Girl Child Day 2023 India A world without girl is as impossible as a world without water. ‘The world could come to a standstill without the existence of girl child. Therefore, every year, National Girl Child Day is celebrated on January 24 to raise awareness to promote the rights, education, health, and nutrition of the girl child across the country. The day is in line with with government campaigns and initiatives such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Save the Girl Child, free/subsidized education, and women’s reservations in colleges and universities.

National Girl Child Day History

National Girl Child Day was first initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The main objective behind this is to highlight the inequalities faced by girls, to promote awareness including the rights of a girl child, the importance of education, health, and nutrition. Nowadays also gender discrimination is a major problem that girls or women face throughout their life. An initiative to eliminate gender-based discrimination in society and to bring about a change in behaviour towards girls in this male-preferred world. The government has made many schemes for the development of the girl child in India.

National Girl Child Day Significance

The day plays a significant role as it is based on the empowerment of girls as they are killed, aborted due to sexual abuse, face gender inequality, and lack many opportunities which are provided to boys in society. So, on this day, various ministries and multiple organisations organize events to empower girls for their betterment. The central and the state governments also issue campaigns and policies for the growth of girl child across the country.

To remove all the inequalities faced by the girl child.
To increase the consciousness of the people and offer new opportunities to the girl child in the society.
To ensure that the girl child should get all their human rights, respect, and value in the country.
To work regarding gender discrimination, to educate people

National Girl Child Day in India 2024 theme

The theme is different every year. In the year 2021, the theme for the National Girl Child Day was ‘Digital Generation, Our Generation.’The government has not announced any theme for this year’s girl child day.
