Paytm Begin’s charging convenience fee for prepaid mobile recharges-Check

Paytm seems to have Begin’s charging a convenience fee on mobile recharges from users. Paytm is asking for a fee of anywhere between Re 1 & Rs 6 from users, depending on the recharge value. The fee is applicable to values worth Rs 100 or higher and on the recharges paid using online modes, such as UPI, credit card, or debit card.

This convenience fee, as seen in screenshots shared , began showing up for select users in early March, but it is not applicable to all users. We could not independently verify these charges, which makes sense because Paytm is not being overt about these charges.

Interestingly, Paytm put out a tweet back in 2019 reaffirming that it will not charge any convenience or transaction fee from clients when using a digital payment methods. “Paytm neither charges nor will charge any convenience or transaction fee from customers on using any payment method which includes Cards, UPI and Wallet,” it wrote on Twitter with a link to a blog post but the link was defunct at the time of writing.
