‘Had I been in PM Modi’s place…’: Punjab BJP leader on way to deal with protesting farmers

Newly appointed Punjab BJP spokesperson Harinder Singh Kahlon stoked a controversy after he said that had he been in place of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he would have “beaten” the farmers protesting against the three farm laws and “put them in jail”.

The BJP leader made the remarks at a recent party meeting. A video of the meeting went viral, showing Harinder Singh Kahlon suggesting harsh measures to deal with the farmers.

In the video, the former All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) leader could be heard saying that PM Modi was dealing with the protesting farmers softly.

“PM Modi is sitting there (in government) who loves them (farmers). If unfortunately, a person like me was sitting there, he would have beaten them on their legs and put them in jail,” Harinder Singh Kahlon said.

Harinder Singh Kahlon, who was recently gheraoed by the farmers, also said that the last resort to deal with the protesting farmers was to “beat them up”.

“Somebody threatened me that he would throw a trolley of cow dung outside my house. I told him to bring a cot and a white sheet along, because he would go back in that,” Harinder Singh Kahlon said.
