HC refuses to quash ED summonses against Anil Deshmukh, rejects plea on coercive action

The Bombay High Court on Friday refused to quash the summonses issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a case of alleged money laundering and corruption, and noted he has failed to prove probe agencies had been acting in a malafide manner against him.

A bench of Justices Nitin Jamdar and SV Kotwal also rejected Deshmukh’s prayer to restrain the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from taking any coercive action against him.

The bench said the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, who resigned from the cabinet in April this year, had failed to prove to the court that in probing him, and in calling him for questioning, the two central agencies had been acting in a malafide manner.
