Public Holidays in India, also known as Statutory Holidays, or colloquially Government Holidays, consist of a variety of cultural, nationalistic, and religious holidays that are legislated in India at the union or state levels. While many of these holidays are honored and acknowledged nationwide, state legislation varies in regard to which are officially recognized.
As New Year 2023 is around the corner, people are taking a look at the calendar to plan their holidays in the upcoming year. They wait for holidays to take time off work to take a break from their monotonous routines. Taking leaves allows people to pursue their hobbies and other interests.
It is mandatory for government offices located outside Delhi to observe 14 holidays in addition to three holidays that can be chosen from the 12 optional days.
The 14 mandatory holidays in India include Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali, Christmas, Good Friday, Guru Nanak’s Birthday, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Zuha, Mahavir Jayanti, Muharram etc.
