Sanjay Dutt to Fardeen Khan, Bollywood’s history with drugs

Bollywood and its history with drugs is long and winding. Time and again, many Bollywood insiders have admitted that not only does the drug culture prevail in the industry, but several celebrities also use different kinds of addictive and non-addictive drugs.

Most significantly, in an exclusive interview with India Today Television following the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, Rhea Chakraborty had admitted that the late actor was addicted to marijuana. And then there was Armaan Kohli’s arrest after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raided his Mumbai home in August. As NCB detains Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan following a drug bust on Cordelia Cruises’ Empress ship off Mumbai shores, we take a look at some Bollywood celebrities who have had drug encounters in the past.

While most celebrities never admit it, Sanjay Dutt has been very vocal about his drug addiction. On Simi Garewal’s chat show a few years ago, Sanjay said that he could not recall a phase when he was really at peace. He started doing drugs in college. “It was just the ‘in’ thing at that time. Somebody just said try it and that was it. For nine years of my life,” he said.

Sanjay also admitted to having tried every drug in the book. At the India Today Conclave 2016, the actor revealed an incident that had taken place when he was under the influence of LSD, a psychedelic drug. Sanjay was called to his father Sunil Dutt’s office.

“I went there and by the time I reached there, he is sitting in front of me and it kind of hit me. I don’t even know what he was saying, he was talking in slow motion and I’m trying to say, ‘ji, ji’. I saw a wick come out from his head and it lit up, like a candle. I saw him melting like a candle. And I jumped on him, trying to put his face together and that wick off,” he said.
