Swiggy Company Profile

Swiggy is an Indian online food ordering and delivery platform cofounded by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy and Rahul Jaimini in August 2014. The company is registered in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh as Bull Technologies. Swiggy has received several rounds of funding from several partnering investors. As of September 2015, they have raised close to USD 20 million from venture capitalists SAIF partners, Accel Partners, Norwest Venture Partners, and an undisclosed global entity.

Swiggy was founded in 2014 by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy, and Rahul Jaimini. Sriharsha (ex IIM-Calcutta) and Nandan are both alumni of BITS Pilani while Rahul Jaimini is an alumnus of IIT-Kharagpur. They had previously worked on a different logistics platform called Bundle, which was eventually shut down due to unforeseen circumstances. Swiggy currently employs more than 300 people and is headquartered in Bengaluru, India.

The company runs each delivery its own, with an indigenous delivery fleet, thereby minimizing dependence on the already burdened restaurant systems. The delivery fleet consists of both full-time employees and part-timers, who are allowed to make as many deliveries as they want, with no fixed targets, and are paid accordingly. Recently, Swiggy introduced a feature that allowed for live-tracking of each order.

In addition to food delivery, Swiggy has also launched Swiggy Go, a hyperlocal delivery service for groceries, medicines, and other household items. The company has also introduced Swiggy Genie, a pick-up and drop service for various needs such as sending documents, delivering packages, or buying products from stores.

Swiggy has raised a total of $2.2 billion in funding from investors such as Naspers, Tencent, DST Global, and Coatue Management. The company has also acquired several startups, including on-demand service provider SuprDaily and hyperlocal delivery startup Shadowfax.

As of 2021, Swiggy has over 2,000 employees and is valued at $5.5 billion. The company has continued to grow rapidly, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and has expanded its services to include new verticals and product offerings.
